“A Broadway Jazz Dance Experience in Vietnam” is an introductory dance workshop series created by two NYC-based dancers and choreographers, Linh An and Johnson Brock. Total of 6 workshops were held in 3 dance centers in Hanoi (Kinergie, Unison, Le Cirque), with the participation of around 100 students from Vietnam, from August - September, 2019.
"Musicals" and especially "theatre dance" are still considered to be "new" in Vietnam's performing arts scene; thus, through this workshop series, Linh & Johnson would like to devour their passion and knowledge for this art form to the Vietnamese dance community and anyone who has an interest in musical-style jazz dancing. The workshops introduce two signature dance forms which are often seen on Broadway stages and American MGM musical films in the 30s-50s: Theatre Jazz, and Tap dance.
As a result of the workshops, "Broadway Jazz Dance Student Showcase" took place on the 13th, September, 2019 in Hanoi, presenting theatre jazz & tap dance numbers performed by students from the workshop series, featuring guest performances by jazz artists "the Fingers band" and Hanoi-based Swing/Lindy Hop communities.
